To Ms. Duester and class mates,

I have been reading an abyss (horror fiction) from almost a month now. The name of the novel is “Obsessed” and is written by Rick R. Reed. This novel was published in 1991, and is written in pure American English. It is a mature novel and will amuse people who like reading horror, suspense, terror, human behavior etc.

.

This abyss is about a man (Joe McAree) who has an obsession of killing women. He is married, and his wife doesn’t know about his obsession. The relatives of the women he kill are after him, Joe continues hiding from his wife and from every body. He doesn’t want to kill but his obsession makes him kill again and again. After he was caught he told about his past, he was beaten and was sexually abused by his father who was perverted man. The novel end up when he has to live with his father again, in the atmosphere he never wanted to go back….

I enjoyed this novel; it made my free time interesting. It has a lot of suspense and is very attention grabbing. I will give an A grade to this novel. It’s not about haunted houses or evil children or ancient mummies which are usually boring and ideas are repeated. It’s about disturbing reality and twisted darkness that people carry among them selves. This book describes how nasty and scary human nature can be. The darkness of this story outlines our flaws, our secret fears, our desires and ambitions. This story taught me that instead of being afraid of ghosts and darkness we should beware of such barbarians in our society. This book creates a friendly relationship with reader and describes its episodes in an interesting manner.

I ill suggest Ms Duester and my friends to choose this novel to read and learn a lot about our nature, our responses and to be aware of threats from people we live in.

Thank you for reading my letter.

  1. Mrs. Duester said,

I’m not sure I could read this novel. It sounds disturbing. I think what makes a horror novel truly horrific is when it tells stories about what has happened to real people. After reading this novel, do you find that you look at people differently or are more mistrustful of others? I’d be afraid that if I read this book, I would have such dark thoughts and I would be afraid of anyone who looked at me strangely. I should think after reading this book, you’ll have to read a postive novel to balance out the darkness of this one.
